A travel carrying case for hot sewing irons?

I teach quilting and sewing. When packing up my iron it is still hot and would like to find a safe way to travel with it in a case.A travel carrying case for hot sewing irons?
If I have to cool down an iron quickly, I slap down some wet towels (paper towels are fine) and iron those -- that quickly brings the temperature down when the iron is off. Dump any water in the tank, and put it in a wool bag. Wool is difficult to ignite, stinks well before it burns, and self-extinguishes when the source of a flame is removed.

I suppose you could use one of the aramid ironing pads (like the ones made by Golden Hands) and line a metal box with it as an iron safe, but that's pretty cumbersome, and not really any safer than a quick cool down.
