YES. This flu is potential, rather than real threat. The biggest problem is that it may mutate in time for the next flu season, and be harder to treat. Right now, it's no worse than regular, seasonal flu, and MUCH less fatal. I don't know what the stats are in England (if I find some, I'll edit this), but in the US, seasonal flu kills an average of about 36,000 a year; H1N1 flu has killed 3 (count 'em, three).
Keep listening and reading for updates, and take normal precautions (mostly handwashing--take Purell) once you're there, but GO! Countries will block travel if that becomes adviseable. In the meantime, regular seasonal flu is a far bigger threat, and you would not cancel your trip based on that, right??? Go! Enjoy!
**As of 5-14, there have been 48 confirmed cases of H1N1 ';swine'; flu in London. For perspective, The population of London is approximately 7,000,000. So, the penetration of swine flu is minimal. I'm including the site that you can use to check for updates on British H1N1 statistics.
There's NO way, unless the situation changes, that I would cancel any travel plans to London.Should I travel to London when there are swine flu cases ?
the only precautions that i am aware of that are being taken are schools where there are cases being shut down and pupils being administered with tamiflu...
nobody is wearing masks - the cases are rather isolated.
Go on vacation. Just use common sense and good hygiene and you should have no problems
There are swine flu cases all over America. I live in ohio and we have 5 of them. I think you will be ok.
